Kate Middleton Opens Up to Cancer Patient, Sharing She ‘Became Attached’ to Her Chemotherapy Port in a Heartfelt Comment

Kate Middleton shared a personal insight into her experience with cancer treatment during her first official engagement of the year.

The Princess of Wales, 43, made a surprise visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital on Jan. 14. During the visit, it was confirmed that she had received treatment at the hospital and joined Prince William as a patron of the facility.

While interacting with patients and staff, Princess Kate spoke about her experience with a chemotherapy port. She shared her thoughts with Katherine Field, a 45-year-old patient undergoing treatment. Field, who was wearing a cold cap to help prevent hair loss during chemotherapy, heard the Princess gesture to her arm and chest as she reflected on her experience.

“I got so attached to it,” Princess Kate said with a smile, joking about her initial hesitation when told, “You can have it taken out now.”

Though she didn’t elaborate further, a chemotherapy port is a small device implanted under the skin and connected to a vein, often used for administering treatments like chemotherapy.

In March 2024, Princess Kate revealed that she was undergoing treatment for cancer. She took a step back from public life to focus on her health and later shared in September that she had completed her chemotherapy.

Although the Princess of Wales has not disclosed her specific diagnosis, she shared after her visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital on Jan. 14 that she is currently in remission.

During her visit, Kate made several heartfelt and personal remarks, including her comment about her chemotherapy port. At the hospital, she appeared deeply engaged and attentive to everyone she met.

According to reports, Princess Kate had an engaging conversation with Katherine Field, a breast cancer patient, who was accompanied by her friend Rachel Burns for support.

Reflecting on the sense of community among patients, Princess Kate remarked, “I had to do it privately and quietly, but being on a ward like this has to be reassuring in a way.”

She added, “Everyone said to me, please keep a positive mindset; it makes such a difference.”

“Princess Kate’s heartfelt visit to The Royal Marsden not only highlighted her resilience but also underscored the importance of hope, community, and positivity in the journey toward healing.”
